Defence

With the world population rising out of control and the era of mass global transportation facilitating global terrorism, it becomes imperative that Britain has a strong permanent national defence force, backed up with a partially trained citizens army, similar to Switzerland, to deal with national emergencies such as a catastrophic terror attack on Britain with weapons of mass destruction. The reality of the modern era is that no weak nation can hope to survive as a national entity without the capacity to defend itself.

We will work with other nations to address areas of mutual concern, such as dealing with global terrorism and illegal immigration, but our troops will remain solely under our control.

To enable Britain to ensure its territorial integrity the British Freedom Party intends to:

1. Withdraw British forces from wars that are no concern of this nation.

2. Strengthen the army to 1980 levels.

3. Expand our special forces troops to create a new wing of the British military that integrates all the services and which is tasked specifically to deal with global terrorism and assymetric warfare threats to Britain.

4. Equip the Royal Navy with the manpower and machinery necessary to fully protect British waters, and the capability to effectively counter any oceanic threat from potential aggressors either by surface or submarine.

5. Equip the Royal Air Force with the best a revitalised British military industrial base can give them. This will stimulate the defence industry within Britain, as we must not depend on, nor be held to ransom by, other countries withholding defence supplies.

6. Maintain Britain’s independent nuclear capability.

7. Withdraw from NATO and any European Union led initiatives to form a joint military command within the EU.

8. Desist from tasking our forces to undertake hostilities in a war that is not directly threatening the homeland or British territory abroad.

9. Use the British Army to secure Britain’s borders and to ensure our internal national security by defending essential infrastructure such as nuclear plants, docks, airports and other transit facilities. This will release police time and effort to fight crime.

10. Strengthen existing British bases overseas such as SBA Cyprus, Gibraltar, Falklands, and Antarctic territories.

11. Renegotiate the agreement with the USA over ‘Wideawake’ to ensure that Ascension Island remains in British control, staffed by British military.
